Moving onward #2

Have just remembered that this blog app can only handle a certain amount of pictures so I am splitting this into two blogs

Here's the rest..........

We have had to forge an estuary at low tide.

And been on a tumultuous boat ride from Falmouth to st mawes

We have met other walkers, most doing just small sections but some doing enough consecutive days to mean that we bump into them on different occasions. There are the Germans who appear to be out on a stroll but always seem to beat us everywhere, turning up in front of us despite it being impossible. And we also seem to be in a pseudo race with 4 elderly women. It's a bit of a mystery to us really, why we are so slow. It doesn't feel as though we are walking at a snails pace but apparently we are. An English mile must be longer than a US mile, just like an English pint is bigger. Yes, that must be it.

And then there is the food....

We were fortunate enough to stumble into a pub in Coverak that was serving a Sunday roast. We couldn't resist and asked for one each, minus the meaty bit. A fabulous nut roast and gravy turned up and we helped ourself to heaps of delicious roast vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. This would be delightful on any day but after walking on the SWCP for several days is was momentous and a meal to talk about for years to come.

Had a fabulous breakfast experience this morning at Gorran Haven another sleepy hamlet with a cafe called "Coast Path Cafe". We were actually on their doorstep an hour before official opening time but Sally let us in and fed us delicious, organic local eggs on toast and hoards of coffee. Sally, Penny and all the other wonderful women who work here are all volunteers and any profits (although there are non yet!) go to the village. They bake their own cakes at home and then sell in the cafe - we got some amazing free carrot cake for the road.

The 'Cafe Girls'!

Looking back on Gorran Haven. I may have to move here as I want to be a cafe girl.

We've even had some gourmet tent meals. [we had actually run out of food here - surprised by a very remote stretch of the SWCP without regular refreshments - so I dragged out everything we had in the pack for dinner; dried apricots, nuts, end piece of bread, veggie pate and amazingly enough organic locally grown lettuce mix!]

And of course yummy Cornish ice cream - this is fudge and caramel with rhubarb crumble!
